WIDA Can Do Descriptors in Class Kick!

Incorporating the 4 Domains with Class Kick

Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening all on Class Kick! Are you an ESL Teacher implementing the Can Do descriptors in your class? II have found that it can be challenging to incorporate speaking and listening in a virtual environment but this tool makes it super easy for all grade levels! Class Kick has all of the tools you need to differentiate your instruction to meet your students needs. With this activity, I looked at sample kindergarten students WIDA data and customized activities aligned to the standards (Animals) and Can Do Descriptors. Additionally, I made sure to have written and audio directions embedded in to each activity to provide further support and ensure students are able to understand the task at hand.

Reading

In this activity, students order words to form short sentences from oral models. (Kindergarten, 5/3) Students can click on the audio to listen to each word and drag and drop each word to create simple sentences. Additionally, there are pictures on select key vocabulary words to provide visual supports for students.

Writing

In this activity, students recount by drawing and labeling the parts of a bird. (Kindergarten, 2/6) There is a word bank at the bottom of the activity to provide an additional scaffold to help them see all of the words that should be used for this activity.

Speaking

In this activity, students recount by retelling stories through a series of pictures. (Kindergarten, 4/2) Students look at different pictures of birds and use the microphone tool to record themselves explaining what is happening in each picture. Students then drag each audio under the appropriate picture.

Listening

In this activity, students process recounts by following sequential language for oral directions one step at a time. (Kindergarten, 3/7) Students click on each piece of audio in order and complete what is asked of them. Each audio is related to the different "bird" vocabulary words to give students even more practice in learning the new vocabulary words.

  1. Hi Megan,

How are you? I attended your Get Techy with It last Wednesday and it was great.
I'm trying to log into the Schoology account to get the recording but I'm not having much luck.
Can you email me the directions and maybe the code so I can reference your great ideas. I really enjoyed your presentation and would like to share some of your ideas with my teacher friends.

    Thank you,
