Virtual Pictionary

Have you tried Virtual Pictionary in your classroom? Before the pandemic happened, my students always enjoyed Pictionary during face-to-face instruction. It is such an engaging but meaningful way to practice news words. Enter Drawasaurus! Drawasaurus is a multi-player Virtual Pictionary game that can be played in either Spanish or English. What I love most about Drawasaurs is that teachers can use this resource for ANY content area because you are able to upload custom word lists. If you teach math, you can upload your math terminology. If you teach Social Studies, you can upload your unit vocabulary and so on.
Drawasaurus is extremely simple to play as well. Last school year I taught 3rd grade and was a little worried about introducing them to a new website with all of the technology that was already being thrown at them when our district shut down. However, to my surprise, the students caught on very quickly due to Drawasaurus being so user friendly and basic.

HOW TO PLAY-
Every round, one player chooses a word and draws their word to the best of their ability. Students are able to choose from different pen sizes and colors which makes it even more fun! The rest of the players have to guess what they think the word is as fast as they can by typing the word into Drawasaurus chatbox. As a teacher, you get to choose the number of rounds, drawing time and the number of word choices a student can choose from when it is their turn to play. For example, when it is a students turn, teachers have the  option to let students pick from two or three words. This is a wonderful feature to incorporate student choice and help students feel comfortable while playing. Additionally, If you are a middle school teacher or have a larger class size, you might be worried about how many students can be in a game at once. Private games can have a maximum of 99 players!

Before I found Drawasuars, last school year I went on a massive internet search to find Virtual Pictionary websites. What I found is there are so many online Pictionary websites out there, however many play ads which can sometimes be inappropriate for students. I won't mention the name but before Drawasurus, I was using a different website and will never forget the day an underwear ad began to play.😱 Drawasaurus DOES NOT play any ads so no worry there! If you give Drawasaurus a try in your classroom, let me know your experience. How did it work for you and your students? Let me know by connecting below! 😎
